When I first put the characters known as "the three sisters" into Six Summoned Swords, I had hoped that other authors might like them and give them a life beyond their short appearance there.
Over time, I began to work on an adventure about bounty hunting - one that eventually became Fiendly Competition. From Star Wars to Killjoys, I've always loved bounty hunter characters, so once I started to work on one adventure, I immediately decided that it would be something I would return to. What I envisioned was a series of stand-alone adventures around the bounty hunting theme. After all, what better set up for a bunch of mini-adventures than various bounties?
The Three Sisters immediately came back to mind as I wondered if I could reuse them. Around this same time, I was doing editing work on Six Striking Swords, where the sisters re-appear. One issue I had was that it was possible for players to have killed the sisters in the first adventure. So I made up a second set of sisters. This forced me to think about the organization that all these characters were part of. Maybe they weren't just three sisters, but a sisterhood that encompassed many more. Just like that I had a whole new organization.
What happened next was the "decommissioning" of the major factions within Adventurers League. Considering this event and its effects on Faerun, what occurred to me was that there would now be a bit of a power vacuum or at the very least a great deal of opportunity for lesser established organizations. It was at this point that I fully committed to the Sisterhood.
The Sisterhood of the Blade will be featured in my upcoming adventure for Ohayocon - Fiendly Competition as well as next year's low level adventure aptly titled The Sisterhood of the Blade that'll premiere at Anime North.
