The Village of Jarko'tu'ta was born out of my travels through Australia and New Zealand. The threat of sharks off the coast is common to Australian waters while geothermal villages of the Maori people made me aware of life on that type of terrain.

Having an area that is artificially warm in the otherwise colder climate of the Moonsea also allows for certain more "tropical" themes or ideas to be used.

The peoples that populate the adventures - from the Wanau to the Big Folk are all very much a creation of the Forgotten Realms though. I knew from first reading about the "Big Folk" (no spoilers!) that I wanted to write about them. The Wanau are a product of my frequent interest in half-elves and the ever-present discussions of "what's the other half anyway?"

Fate of the Nightworms is the second stand-alone adventure that starts in the village. Among the earth's many magical creatures, I'm not sure that any come closer to being mythical than these. Check out this lovely video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC41M7RPSec
